This Day in History: 1847-02-26

Buffalo Bill Cody
a military scout and circus producer was born this day in 1847. Contrary to legend, Cody supported buffalo conservation and thought of American Indians as the “the former foe, present friend, the American.” According to biographer R.L. Wilson, Cody once said: “Every Indian outbreak that I have ever known has resulted from broken promises and broken treaties by the government.”
