This Day in History: 1896-03-01

Henri Becquerel is the first to discover radioactivity on this day in 1896 by testing deceptively phosphorescent uranium salts with photographic paper (shown here). He is awarded the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1903. The discovery sets off scientific exploration leading to nuclear medicine, nuclear energy and nuclear weapons.
