This Day in History: 1945-08-06

Atomic bomb dropped on Hiroshima The US dropped the world’s first nuclear weapon on the Japanese city of Hiroshima on Aug. 6, 1945,  killing between 90,000 and 140,000 people. The bombing ended WWII and opened a new era in world history. Whether or not the bombing could — or should —  have been avoided remains the subject of intense debate. However, there is no debate about the damage done to the people, the city and the environment of this section of coastal Japan, or the way any future nuclear war would utterly destroy the people and environment of the earth.
